Biography
Sarbyen Sheni is a public health professional with extensive experience in program strategy, research, advocacy, community engagement and health communication. She currently works as Coordinator, Public Health Data Analytics at the Larson Institute, where she analyzes and translates public health data into actionable insights to inform policy and community practice in Nevada.
With over seven years of experience advancing health equity, disease prevention, maternal health, opioid overdose prevention, and reproductive justice across national, regional, and global contexts, Sarbyen has worked at the intersection of research, practice, and policy to strengthen health systems and improve community health outcomes. Her leadership also extends to collaborating with national stakeholders and community partners, particularly underserved and marginalized communities to develop tailored solutions towards improving health outcomes. Her work includes leading large-scale public health interventions to address structural barriers to healthcare, and synthesizing complex qualitative and quantitative data, and lived experiences to support evidence-based decision-making. She recently presented on perinatal behavioral health at the Nevada legislature, calling for policy action to improve health outcomes for women and children in the state.
Sarbyen has led multi-country coalitions and advocacy campaigns that build power across health, youth, and social justice movements, contributing to policy change and expanded access to equitable health services in the United States and Africa. She is deeply committed to leveraging research, collaboration, and community-centered approaches to drive meaningful and sustainable social change.

- Collaborated with subject matter expert (Dr Stephanie Woodard) to develop Nevada state report on perinatal behavioral health, synthesizing qualitative data to inform policy and practice recommendations for improved care coordination. - Analyzed Nevada state health assessment reports and developed maternal health improvement plan, outlining strategies to address identified disparities and improve maternal health equity – Nevada Office of Minority Health, Department of Health & Human Services (2023).
- Conducted research interviews and contributed to literature reviews and manuscript writing for the HERO substance use research project (2023 – 2025)
